Let it flow A ZAR4.6 billion project to upgrade bulk water schemes in Limpopo, South Africa, is expected to improve water supply in the area. A Memorandum of Agreement has been signed between Lepelle Northern Water (LNW) and the Infrastructure Fund unit of the Development Bank of South Africa (DBSA) for the funding and implementation of the first phase of the upgrades to the Olifantspoort and Ebenezer schemes. LNW, which has the mandate to supply bulk water in the area, is already evaluating tenders procured for emergency work on the schemes. The DBSA reports that the first phase of the upgrade will increase supply of potable water to Polokwane by 55 megalitres to 65 megalitres a day by 2026. The project is part of a ZAR18 billion, seven-year, three-phase plan to upgrade and refurbish bulk water schemes that are owned and operated by LNW.
