Well connected In Ethiopia, an infrastructure-lease agreement between the national power utility and a Kenyan mobile network operator is set to provide improved communication services. According to Business Insider Africa, the five-year arrangement between Ethiopian Electric Power (EEP) and Safaricom will enable the latter to make use of EEP’s optical ground wire cables, to support services such as voice, data, video, text, messages and conferencing. The EEP is on record as saying that the deal lays the foundation for the two companies to work together. Safaricom Ethiopia MD Anwar Soussa adds that ‘such infrastructure-sharing agreements will enable us to fulfil our commitment to transform Ethiopian lives for a digital future, and contributes to efforts being made to the phased-operation launch’. 22 March 2022 Image: Gallo/Getty Images
