Water mark Plans for six hydropower dams have been revived by the Nigerian government. The dams will be constructed by private operators as part of a government-led initiative based on a rural electrification plan, as reported in Construction Review Online. Said to have been in development for decades, the dams will provide about 2 000 MW of electricity, according to Minister of Power, Works and Housing, Babatunde Fashola. Fashola said the move is aimed at energising the country’s educational institutions and markets. ‘While the whole value chain and power privatisation gradually evolves, it is possible to create oases of success by showing to our children that they can have reliable power while in school,’ he says. 21 August 2018 Image: Gallo/Getty Images
