Kenya is adding 42.5 MW to its renewable energy generation capacity by building a mammoth floating solar power installation.

Situated at Kenya Electricity Generating Company’s hydroelectric facility at Seven Forks in the east of the country, the project will take an estimated 28 months to complete, reports ESI-Africa.

It will be the second-largest solar power plant in Kenya after the 55 MW plant at Garissa.

The plan is to complement Seven Forks’ generation capacity during the day, while reserving most of the hydroelectricity for the night.

According to Business Daily Africa, Kenya’s solar generation hit a record 491.49 million kW/h in 2023.
