Under the sun Mozambique is set to significantly increase its power supply from renewables, with plans to instal a 100 MW floating solar farm. ESI Africa reports that the solar power farm is part of the country’s ambitions to add 1 GW of solar power by 2030. Mozambique’s electricity utility Electricidade de Moçambique plans to build the floating solar power farm, on the Chicamba reservoir in Manica province. AfDB is providing US$25 million in financing through its Sustainable Energy for Africa facility. Last year Mozambique added 80 MW of renewable energy to its grid by building solar power stations with a total combined capacity of 125 MW. 6 August 2024 Image: Freepik
