The same wavelength In some parts of Africa, women are equally tech savvy as their male counterparts when it comes to internet browsing via mobile phone. A combined study conducted by global software company Opera and digital reading NPO Worldreader – which surveyed 1 500 women and men in Kenya, Nigeria and South Africa – shows that 60% of women in Kenya and Nigeria access their mobile browsers more than eight times a day. The same data also suggests that women in all three countries engage with a wider variety of internet content than men, particularly the type that can improve their lives such as education, economy, property rights, public services and health. According to an IT News Africa report, women also tend to buy bigger data packages than men, with Kenyan women opting for 10 GB data bundles, which is up to five times more than males. 15 August 2017 Image: Gallo/Getty Images
