Strong connection A US$425 million undersea cable has landed in Mombasa, Kenya. The cable is expected to offer Kenya more digital connection options, and the prospect of stable and secure data access possibilities. According to the Submarine Telecoms Forum, the cable will offer high internet speeds of up to 200 Gbps. It is a branch of the 15 000 km PEACE (Pakistan and East Africa Connecting Europe) cable that will connect China to Europe and Africa. PEACE itself is part of the Digital Silk Road initiative, the technology component of China’s Belt and Road Initiative, which is focused on infrastructure development.
