Solid reputation When it comes to global sustainability practices coupled with green building, South Africa takes the lead. According to the 2016 World Green Building Trends report (as compiled by construction group Dodge Data and Analytics), the country now has the highest green building share (40%) of construction projects worldwide and outshines nations such as the UK, US, China, Singapore and Germany, as well as Australia – historically the environmentally-friendly building market leader. As reported by MoneyWeb, the number of buildings certified by the Green Building Council of South Africa has grown from just one in 2009 to more than 190 today. What’s more, by 2018 61% of the country’s businesses expect to have in excess of 60% of their projects certified ‘green’ – a good deal greater than the global average of 37%. 2 August 2016 Image: Green Building Council of South Africa
