The federal government of Nigeria has announced that it will automate all government processes, using an electronic document management system (EDMS), in an attempt to promote transparency.

According to Minister of Communication, Adebayo Shittu, Nigeria recognises the need to use ICT to transform governance. He adds that the EDMS will automate governance processes, allowing government to be more transparent, effective and efficient in service delivery to Nigeria’s citizens.

A strategy has been developed for re-engineering the e-government agenda of the ministry, with a view to guiding the deployment of ICT in a holistic and citizen-centric manner. The strategy is awaiting approval from Nigeria’s Federal Executive Council.
