Smooth crossing The upgraded Tunduma-Nakonde one-stop border post (OSBP) between western Tanzania and Zambia is open for business. Featuring new administration and inspection centres, the US$7.8 million facility also includes an updated clearance system. The old manual procedures involved ‘double checks’, which were time-consuming and open to corruption. Clearance certificates are now issued electronically, dramatically easing cross-border movement of vehicles and goods, and reducing waiting times from four days to just one, as reported by the Citizen. ‘The one-stop border will facilitate trade and address challenges and delays that were hitherto impeding exporters and importers,’ Tanzanian President John Magufuli said at the launch of the OSBP. An estimated 600 vehicles cross the border post each day. 15 October 2019 Image: zanzibarnikwetu.blogspot.com
