A collaborative initiative aims to address water-related challenges in Southern Africa.

WaterNet, a regional network of university departments and research institutes specialising in water, has signed an MoU with South Africa’s Council for Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) and the Southern African Science Service Centre for Climate Change and Adaptive Land Management (SASSCAL).

Under the agreement, the organisations will tackle issues such as water scarcity, quality monitoring and integrated water resource management. It was signed in Luanda, Angola, on the sidelines of the recent Global Monitoring for Environment and Security regional workshop, which was co-hosted by the CSIR and SASSCAL.

According to Space in Africa, the organisations will pool their resources, research capacity and networks to develop innovative solutions and improve water management practices, thus enhancing the well-being and resilience of local communities.
