Seaside attraction A ZAR7 billion redevelopment project is being planned for a 55 ha of stretch of prime coastal land in Gqeberha, South Africa, to attract tourists back to the area. According to Luvoyo Bangazi, corporate services executive for the Mandela Bay Development Agency (MBDA), the Bayworld Programme covers 13 projects including redeveloping the old Bayworld Oceanarium and the Happy Valley nature reserve as well as building an International Convention Centre. The nearby international airport is being revamped in a separate project by private developers. In a Moneyweb interview, Bangazi said the Bayworld Programme would be financed through government funding and public-private partnerships. He said the MBDA had completed the feasibility work and economic modelling, and recently began clearing the land, which is owned by the Eastern Cape government . 12 December 2023 Image: Unsplash
