A proposed 20 MW colocation facility for Cape Town, South Africa, is set to increase capacity for the storage and processing of data.

The new data centre will complement Africa Data Centres’ existing 1 800 m² facility in the suburb of Diep River, which is unable to meet increased demand for colocation space. The new centre will span 15 000 m² across eight data halls.

It will be located in a secure business park north of the city centre, within easy reach of the Port of Cape Town and Cape Town International Airport.

It is expected that the facility will generate a wide range of employment opportunities, from digital services to construction, for entry-level and high-tech contractors and workers. IT Web reports that the new build is in the initial design phase, with work set to begin by year-end.
