Programming support Aspirant software developers in South Africa will have a chance to learn news skills through an African-focused training initiative. South Africa is the second country after Kenya to launch the #1MillionDevs4Africa programme, which aims to train 1 million developers over the next five years. According to Ventureburn, the programme is a flagship project of NPO Power Learn Project (PLP), which launched in Kenya in 2022. PLP is collaborating with venture-builder Adanian Labs and the Startup Business Campus of pan-African investment group ICRD to offer fully funded 16-week courses in subjects ranging from programming languages to blockchain 101. In the pilot phase in South Africa, the course aims to train 10 000 software developers over four months at the Sci-Bono Discovery Centre in Gauteng. PLP also plans on expanding the initiative to Zambia, Nigeria, Ghana, Uganda and Rwanda over the coming months. 6 September 2022 Image: Gallo/Getty Images
