Power play The world’s first modular floating storage and regassification unit (M-FSRU) for liquefied natural gas (LNG) is ready to be deployed in Senegal. The unit – the result of a conversion from a 125 000 m3 carrier – can produce 84 million cubic feet per day (mmcf/d) of LNG. Upstream Online reports that the vessel will be installed at the Port of Dakar, where it will deliver LNG to fleet operator Karpowership’s floating power plant, the Karadeniz Powership Aysegul Sultan, to power crucial shore-based grids in the country. The M-FSRU has been equipped with engineering consultant Gas Entec’s modular RegasTainer technology, which enables the unit to scale up to 300 mmcf/d, with little downtime. The technology also allows the vessel to be repurposed as the market’s power demands grow or change. The unit belongs to Karmol, a joint venture between Turkey’s Karpowership and Mitsui OSK Lines of Japan. 24 May 2022 Images: Gallo/Getty Images
