Plug in Imagine if website browsing, making calls and playing games on a mobile phone didn’t drain the life of its battery but instead charged it? Well, imagine no more. University of Nairobi student George Ouma has invented an auto-run device that uses energy generated by a mobile’s activities to charge it. In fact, the more you use the phone, the more it will automatically juice up. The electrical engineering student formulated the idea in 2010 but it took him three years to sort out the technical glitches. The young inventor told the Star newspaper that the device will most likely cost between KSh2 500 and KSh3 000 if sold as a standalone but that the ‘mobile phone companies will recommend whether to attach it to the cover or assemble it during manufacturing’. Ouma added that he plans to launch his product next year but that he is still in need of financial backing. 11 August 2015 Image: Gallo/GettyImages
