Raring to go A new factory in Nairobi, Kenya, will be able to produce 50 000 electric motorcycles a year to meet the growing demand in East Africa. The 10 000m2 facility, operated by Kenyan-Swedish manufacturer Roam, is designed as a technology hub incorporating production, distribution and storage, thereby reducing the company’s carbon footprint. The assembly of the Roam Air motorcycles will also be carbon-neutral, reports ESI Africa. ‘The new facility will enable Roam’s engineers and technicians to increase capacity throughout the assembly process and improve overall safety and quality,’ says Roam’s chief operating officer Brett Mangel. The electric motorcycles, which sell for US$1 500, have a top speed of 90 km/h and a dual battery range of 140 km. 21 March 2023 Image: Roam Air
