On the move Emobility in West Africa is revving up with Senegal-based EV solutions provider SolarBox securing US$1 million in pre-seed funding. The two-year-old start-up designs, assembles and deploys custom-built two-or three-wheel emobility solutions for corporates for last-mile delivery. Its solutions integrate solar charging systems, financing options and fleet management, reports Weetracker. The funding round attracted high-profile investors such as the EU’s Digital Energy Facility, Launch Africa Ventures, JLL Foundation and Teranga Capital. The start-up has also partnered with industry leaders across Senegal, including Orange Energies, FedEx, Paps Logistics, Plastic Odyssey, Swiss Fresh Water, Health in a Box, and Fleetch, according to Africa Business Communities. In explaining why it chose to invest in SolarBox, Launch Africa Ventures said the company ‘presents a compelling opportunity to back an industry-defining company in the electric mobility sector in Africa’, adding that SolarBox’s B2B strategy ‘facilitates easy entry into new markets without requiring pre-existing infrastructure since charging points can be installed at the customer location’. 26 November 2024 Image: Solarbox
