Data centre capacity in South Africa is set to grow by 20 MW following the conclusion of a special funding deal.

Africa Business Securities reports that African Data Centres (ADC), a subsidiary of pan-African Cassava Technologies, has secured financing worth almost US$110 million through a specially tailored arrangement with Rand Merchant Bank (RMB) to expand its cloud computing services in the region.

Cassava’s group CEO, Hardy Pemhiwa, says the expansion of the services is in line with the group’s vision of a digitally connected continent ‘that leaves no person behind’.

The project will see ADC beef up its hyperscale data centre capacity at its Midrand facility by 20 MW to meet demand for interconnected carrier- and cloud-neutral services.

RMB, which acted as the co-ordinator, initial mandated lead arranger and bookrunner, structured the funding facility according to ADC’s strategic objectives.

ADC has data centres in Midrand, Centurion and Cape Town in South Africa as well as in Lagos and Nairobi.
