Fast work Nigeria is vying to become a leading content hub in West Africa with the launch of a new internet exchange (IX). The AMS-IX Lagos is located in a carrier-neutral data centre owned by MainData Nigeria (MDXi), reports Africa Business Communities. It is launching with more than 25 connected networks, which are being migrated from the West Africa Internet Exchange. They include large content delivery networks and app providers such as Microsoft and Google. Peter van Burgel, CEO of Amsterdam-based AMS-IX, which is collaborating with MDXi on AMS-IX Lagos, says the new IX will ‘add value to the local carriers and IXs by attracting even more content players to the region and support the local connectivity community’. He says it is ‘an important stepping stone for bringing low-latency affordable internet’ to the region. 25 April 2023 Image: Unsplash
