Green living An initiative to build net zero villages in Nigeria has been launched. The villages, which will be designed holistically with the aim of reducing greenhouse gases, are the brainchild of renewable energy start-up PAM Africa. The first net zero village is expected to create 112 jobs, but the company’s goal is to develop 200 net zero villages by 2030, generating 20 000 new jobs for rural residents and off-setting 56 700 tons of greenhouse gases. According to African Business Communities, the villages will feature technology promoting sustainable energy, such as solar mesh-grids, mini-grids, battery hubs, cooling systems and e-mobility solutions. 7 March 2023 Image: Gallo/Getty Images
