Natural resource A mine in Tanzania – set to become one of the largest producers of natural graphite outside China – is on the verge of final commissioning. The Lindi Jumbo graphite mine in south-eastern Tanzania is already starting to concentrate ore, reports Mining Review. The commissioning team is now focusing on wet commissioning and achieving overall concentrator throughput to meet the design target of 40kpta. Graphite ore has passed through the entire concentrating circuit to produce an unscreened wet concentrate – ready for processing through the filter presses and commissioning of the burner and dryer. ‘It is the culmination of more than six years of feasibility, procurement, engineering, construction and commissioning work,’ says Andrew Cunningham, CEO of Australia’s Walkabout Resources. He says the project prioritised safety while also focusing on controlling capital costs and involving the local community. 7 May 2024 Image: Walkabout Resources
