Big deal Africa’s first gigafactory producing EV batteries is in the offing. Morocco has signed an MoU with Chinese manufacturer Gotion High Tech to build an EV battery factory with an annual capacity of 100 GW. Moneyweb reports that the project envisages an investment of US$6.4 billion by Gotion High Tech, which is one of the world’s 10 largest battery manufacturers. Mohcine Jazouli, Morocco’s delegate Minister for Investment and Public Policies, says the MoU will be followed by an investment agreement. Gotion High Tech, based in Hefei in Anhui province, announced last year that it was planning to build a total battery production capacity of 300 GWh by 2025, basing one-third of its production outside China. 13 June 2023 Image: Gotion High Tech
