Mineral wealth An African phosphate producer has confirmed the first bulk sale from the site of South Africa’s second-largest phosphate deposit. Kropz, an emerging producer and developer of plant nutrient feed minerals with phosphate projects in South Africa and in the Republic of Congo, has announced the shipment of 33 000 tons of phosphate concentrate from its Elandsfontein operation, as reported by Mining Review. The product was generated during the plant’s commissioning and ramp-up period. About US$160 million has been invested on the project since Kropz bought the property, located on the west coast of South Africa’s Western Cape province, in 2010. The company developed an open-pit mining operation and on-site processing facility with a production capacity of 1 million tons per annum. 31 January 2023 Image: Gallo/Getty Images
