Mail service The postal service in Botswana has signed a deal to use non-fungible token (NFT) and blockchain technology to manage the country’s official postage stamps. The platform will digitalise Botswana’s collection of historic stamps as well as issue new stamps using NFT technology. ‘Stamps have always been considered “the ambassadors” of the country’s cultural, natural, economical and other achievements to the world. With NFT stamps, we aim to create a whole new level of collection experience for all collectors around the world,’ says BotswanaPost CEO Cornelius Ramatlhakwane. ITWeb reports that the postal service is collaborating with Estonia-based Stampsdaq, a dedicated NFT stamps platform targeted at postal operators and employing a ‘collect with benefits’ model for the global philately community. The platform also offers value-added benefits to NFT stamp collectors, such as travel rewards programmes. 1 November 2022 Image: Gallo/Getty Images
