Live wire In Accra, Ghana, the largest power substation in the country has been inaugurated. The 580 MVA Pokuase substation is the fifth bulk supply point (BSP) to be built in the capital, and it’s expected to improve the quality and reliability of power supply to 350 000 utility customers – which include households, SMEs and businesses – across the city. It will also reduce technical losses in the power transmission and distribution system, contributing to the financial viability of the Electricity Company of Ghana and the Ghana Grid Company. Construction of the US$64.72 million BSP was made possible through the Ghana Power Compact Programme, with funding from the US’ Millennium Challenge Corporation. 2 November 2021 Image: Gallo/Getty Images
