Thanks to the MindAfrica Leadership Initiative NGO, 50 girls, aged 10–17, can now build a website, an app or even a robot, according to a report in Balancing Act. The first Girls Code Club, launched at the Holy Rosary College, in the Nigerian city of Port Harcourt, Rivers state, is equipping the girls with the skills to become creators of technology. The girls took their first steps in coding during a one-day workshop that featured plenary sessions, workshops and interactions with women in the ICT profession. The curriculum enables girls who have minimal computer skills to learn the basics of programming and creative expression through code. 22 May 2018 Image: Gallo/Getty Images
