Into orbit The Egyptian Space Agency (EgSA) and the University of Cairo have signed an agreement to develop the country’s space science and technology by establishing an educational satellite laboratory at the faculty of engineering. Space in Africa reports that the agreement forms part of a larger framework for several Egyptian universities to promote the sustainable development of space science and technology. The lab will build educational satellites through the agency’s Space Technology Educational platform. During the signing ceremony, Dr Mohamed Iraqi, vice-president of EgSA, noted that the partnership serves as ‘an avenue to create unique opportunities for students to understand and explore the design and workings of satellites’. EgSA supports research, studies and educational programmes in space science and technology, and encourages using the outcomes to assist the country in reaching the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals. 25 January 2021 Image: NASA
