Higher goal The continent’s space industry has a new satellite testing centre at its disposal. Space in Africa reports that the satellite assembly, integration and testing (AIT) facility – located in Egypt’s newly completed Space City in Cairo – features state-of-the-art technology and expertise to test the integration of satellite components and subsystems into one unit. According to Sherif Sedky, CEO of the Egyptian Space Agency, the AIT centre will be operational by June and he encouraged other space agencies on the continent to make use of the service. Speaking at the 2023 NewSpace Africa Conference in Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire, Sedky said that by working with other African countries, Egypt could help build capacity in the region and promote knowledge transfer, by developing local expertise and a more robust upstream ecosystem. 2 May 2023 Image: Gallo/Getty Images
