High energy Construction of the world’s largest solar-power facility is complete. Egypt’s US$4 billion Benban solar PV park has a total capacity of 1.5 GW and spans more than 37 km2, as reported by Energy Egypt. The park is able to power more than one million households. Located in the desert province of Aswan, the solar park was built to help make the North African nation self-sufficient in terms of energy. It comprises 6 million solar panels across 32 plots, and will represent 3% of the country’s total installed capacity. The project is expected to reduce annual carbon emissions by at least 1.9 million tons. Up to 10 000 workers per day were involved in the construction of the park, which took about two years to complete. 05 November 2019 Image: Benban Solar Park
