Healing network A Kenyan e-health start-up’s technology is now being used in 1 000 facilities across five countries, marking it as one of the largest digital pharmacy networks in sub-Saharan Africa. Maisha Meds now services tech-enabled pharmacies across Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, Nigeria and Zambia, which together attended to 2.5 million patients over the past year. The company was founded in 2017 to provide business-management software and reimbursement programmes for pharmacies and clinics, as well as patient support via its point-of-sale pharmacy app. Its free Android-based inventory-management software can be used by any clinic or pharmacy, as it is designed for low-internet connectivity, thus proving suitable for semi-urban and rural areas. As reported by Spacewatch Africa, the company now plans to design an e-commerce platform and credit solutions enabling healthcare facilities to access quality medications at affordable prices. 14 June 2022 Image: Gallo/Getty Images
