On the map An atlas of green hydrogen resources in the Southern African Development Community (SADC) has been launched to guide advancements in the industry. A collaboration between the Southern African Science Service Centre for Climate Change and Adaptive Land Management, SADC’s Centre for Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency and the H2Atlas-Africa project, the interactive map pinpoints ‘locations of interest’ in 12 countries in the region. Engineering News reports that the atlas provides data on a range of green hydrogen resources, from water, land, transport and renewable energy to policy frameworks and energy regulations. A science-based decision support tool for the development of green hydrogen pilot plants, the atlas involved contributions from 60 scientists, 16 modellers and a 12-member regional technical committee team. The H2Atlas-Africa project, funded by the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research, is also working with the 15-member Economic Community of West African States to produce a green hydrogen map of West Africa. 13 June 2023 Image: Unsplash
