Life force The fourth phase of a project to ensure the sustainable provision of water to communities in Ghana is entering the design stage. This follows the formal commissioning on 3 July of the EUR11.5 million third phase to provide water to about 90 000 people across 95 communities in the Volta region. The new facilities include three concrete water reservoirs, a booster station and 175 km of water pipes. The third phase was completed within three years, according to Afrik21. ‘The government’s objective is to ensure that all regions of the country benefit from adequate, safe, affordable and reliable water supply services,’ President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo announced at the commissioning. The project is part of the country’s Water for All initiative, which focuses on developing sustainable strategies to reduce pollution; promote efficient water use; strengthen decentralised management structures; improve the country’s water resource data base; raise awareness; and step up monitoring. 11 July 2023 Image: Freepik
