The world’s highest hybrid timber apartment block is set to be built in Zanzibar.
While employing modern timber technology, the 96m, 28-storey, 266-unit Burj Zanzibar will have a core of steel-reinforced concrete. Dubbed a ‘vertical green village’ it will also feature a green roof garden and planted balconies.
Africa Business Communities reports that the burj (tower) will be located in Fumba Town, an eco-town being developed on the island’s south-western coast.
The tower will offer a range of studio, one- and two-bedroom apartments and deluxe penthouses. It will rest on a terraced podium with shared and private gardens, shops and a common pool.
The project is to be executed by a consortium from Europe, South Africa, Tanzania and the US.
