Full coverage Global cloud computing giant Amazon Web Services (AWS) is planning to spend ZAR1.7 billion over the next five years to expand its services in sub-Saharan Africa (SSA). Speaking at the recent AWS Summit held in Johannesburg, South Africa, Chris Erasmus, AWS Country GM, said AWS considered the region ‘as an incredibly strategic area for growth’, according to ITWeb. ‘We have over 6 000 partners that are helping us to build and deliver our business value,’ he said. Erasmus said that by 2029, AWS will have invested ZAR46 billion in its South African business alone since launching in the country in 2018. For example, it announced last year that it is investing ZAR30.4 billion in its cloud infrastructure in South Africa.
