Farm to table In Tanzania, a five-year US$25 million initiative has been launched to curtail food loss and waste along the value chain. Africa Business Communities reports that the goal of Tuhifadhi Chakula, translated as Let’s Save Food, is to increase food security, improve livelihoods, generate employment and secure export opportunities – especially among women and youth. A partnership between the Tanzania Horticulture Association and the Southern Agricultural Growth Corridor of Tanzania Centre, and funded by the US Agency for International Development, the scheme will work with farmers, traders and processors to halve food loss and waste, which is estimated at 40% to 50% of crops. It will begin work in the regions of Arusha, Mbeya, Morogoro, Njombe, Pwani, Tanga and Zanzibar. 15 August 2023 Image: Unsplash
