Energy boost An agreement has been signed to build two hydroelectric dams with a total capacity of 331 MW in the Republic of the Congo. The project involves the construction of the Morala and Nyanga hydroelectric dams in the south, which will generate 230 MW and 101 MW respectively on completion. The deal was inked between the Congolese government and the Sino-Congolese consortium Energaz-CGGC (China Gezhouba Group Corporation), according to the Ministry of International Co-operation and the Promotion of Public-Private Partnership. The agreement will also include the full rehabilitation of the 19 MW Liouesso hydroelectric dam in the Sangha region as part of the Congo government’s plans to improve the country’s energy capacity. 7 June 2022 Image: Gallo/Getty Images
