Switch gear Egypt is improving connectivity in the region with the launch of a digital platform that enables users to switch between submarine cables. The country, through Telecom Egypt, hosts 14 subsea cable systems landing at 10 cable stations around the country, according to Africa Business Communities. The new WeConnect platform offers commercial users click-to-order cross-connectivity across different cable systems. Telecom Egypt MD and CEO Mohamed Nasr says the platform will enable its partners ‘to make the best use of their assets, which will ultimately echo into the end-user experience globally’. The telco offers a neutral and transparent cross-connection model with standardised pricing. Commercial users are able route their traffic over different systems, enabling them to scale up wherever they see an opportunity, while having full control over their connectivity. 3 October 2023 Image: Freepik
