Partners in space Members of the East African Community are pooling their resources to launch a satellite to improve internet service to the region. Space in Africa reports that ICT ministers from Uganda, Kenya, Rwanda and South Sudan announced their collaboration on the satellite initiative in Nairobi, Kenya, at a meeting held under the auspices of the Northern Corridor Integration Projects (NCIP). The initiative is expected to expand access to improved broadband internet and broadcasting services. Richard Kabonero, the NCIP co-ordinator, says the cost of launching the satellite is estimated at US$300 million, but regional collaboration will make the expensive endeavour more feasible. According to TS2.Space, a technical committee with representatives from each partner state will draft a unified proposal for the satellite initiative. 28 November 2023 Image: Freepik
