Synthetic e-fuels are to be produced using renewable energy at a plant on South Africa’s west coast.
ESI Africa reports that 500 000 tons a year of synthetic e-fuels will be generated from green hydrogen, which is produced through electrolysis. The electrolyser, with a nominal output of 1 GW, will be powered by wind and solar energy, while the water used in the process will be derived from desalinated seawater.
A Memorandum of Understanding for the project – covering project development and marketing – has been signed by German clean energy solutions provider PNE Group and energy trader SET Select Energy.
