Due credit In South Africa, people over the age of 60 who go for their first COVID-19 jab during the month of November will receive a ZAR100 shopping voucher. This incentive forms part of the country’s Vooma campaign, which was launched in October to encourage people to get vaccinated ahead of the anticipated fourth wave of infections. According to the Department of Health, ‘the rate of vaccination among older people is now very low […] there will be 1.8 million people 60+ unvaccinated at the end of the year’. It adds that vouchers will only be given to people coming for their first dose – either the J&J vaccine or first dose of the Pfizer vaccine. Once vaccinated, the vaccinee will automatically be sent a voucher via SMS. Around 260 000 vouchers are available, and these can be redeemed at Shoprite, Checkers and Usave stores. 16 November 2021 Image: Gallo/Getty Images
