Cyber force Lomé, the capital of Togo, is set to play host to a regional cybersecurity hub. ITWeb reports that Togo and the UN Economic Commission for Africa (ECA) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding to establish the African Centre for Co-ordination and Research in Cybersecurity. It follows a cybersecurity summit earlier this year, which resulted in the Declaration of Lomé, a commitment by AU member states to ratify the Malabo Convention on cybersecurity and personal data protection. The new hub will strengthen resources and support the development of existing cybersecurity bodies in the region. It will also work with governments, policy makers and others to build a framework to detect cyberthreats; and provide technical assistance and expertise to promote cybersecurity in Africa. Togo’s Minister of Digital Economy and Digital Transformation Cina Lawson said at the signing, ‘We are pleased to partner with ECA to further our commitment to making cybersecurity a top priority for our nations.’ 23 August 2022 Image: Unsplash/Shahadat Rahman
