The new Dangote oil refinery in Nigeria will start production during the third quarter of 2022.

According to Aliko Dangote, founder of the Dangote Group, the refinery will initially process 540 000 barrels per day. ‘Full production can start, maybe, by the end of the year or beginning of 2023.’ He adds that mechanical work on the refinery is complete, and that the facility should be ‘in the market’ before the end of the third quarter.

The plant is located in the Lekki Free Zone near Nigeria’s capital, Lagos. Engineering News reports that construction cost an estimated US$19 billion on completion. The facility has an installed production capacity of 650 000 barrels per day, representing an output sufficient to meet Nigeria’s fuel demand.
