Ghanaians submit more applications to win the US green card lottery than any other country in the world.
As reported by Quartz Africa, the Pew Research Centre has released findings that, over the past decade, the diversity visa programme (green card) drew more than 156 million applications from around the world.
Green card applications from Ghana have climbed in recent years, from around 290 000 in 2007 to 1.73 million in 2015 – accounting for approximately 7% of the country’s population. This sharp rise is most likely due to economic instability in Ghana.
