Bright horizon Construction of the largest solar plant in Burkina Faso is under way. The Kodéni solar power plant will be located on a 70 ha site near Bobo-Dioulasso, the country’s second-biggest city. On completion, it will have an installed production capacity of 38 MW and an annual production capacity of 73 000 MWh. Approximately 115 000 homes are set to benefit from clean, reliable and affordable energy, and the plant will also reduce Burkina Faso’s dependence on fossil fuels and avoid the emission of 41 000 tons of CO2 per year. The project will also create 150 direct jobs during development and 35 permanent jobs once it is commissioned in August next year. 9 November 2021 Image: Gallo/Getty Images
