Branching out Automaker Nissan is expanding its business in West Africa. According to a Reuters report, the company plans to build a car assembly plant in Ghana, which it intends to grow into a sales hub in the region. It also has an assembly plant in Nigeria. Nissan’s MD for Africa, Mike Whitfield, says the company sees Ghana as the gateway to West Africa. ‘We will grow our business presence in the region and it’s for the long term,’ he says. Nissan has around a 30% vehicle market share in Ghana.
