Clever thinking Ethical, innovative use of AI will be spurred on with the formation of the South African Artificial Intelligence Association. The new industry body – made up of AI practitioners from the commercial, government, academic, start-up and NGO sectors – will promote responsible innovation in AI, reports ITWeb. Members include German development agency GIZ; the non-profit Data Economy Policy Hub; South Africa’s Technology Innovation Agency; Tshwane University of Technology; the Western Cape provincial government; and Webber Wentzel. According to founder Nick Bradshaw, the association will encourage ‘the adoption of responsible AI for the commercial and societal benefit of the citizens of South Africa with a primary focus on regulation, economic growth, trade, investment, fairness, equality and inclusivity’.
