A cuppa growth Ethiopia is planning to build a US$50 million ‘coffee park’ in Addis Ababa in an effort to promote its coffee products globally. Xinhua reports that the 30 ha park – which will be built with the help of the South Korean government over three years – will include a coffee museum and a market centre. The Ethiopian Coffee and Tea Authority (ECTA) has also announced plans to establish an umbrella coffee brand – ‘Ethiopian Coffee’ – aimed at enhancing the ‘international presence and image’ of Ethiopia’s major coffee varieties, such as Yirgacheffe, Harrar and Sidamo. ECTA director-general Adugna Debella says the single brand may aid the country in international price negotiations, adding that it could be of ‘paramount importance for developing the coffee sector’. 20 August 2019 Image: Gallo/Getty Images
