    Opportunity knocks

A new training programme in South Africa specialising in Fourth Industrial Revolution (4IR) skills is targeting youngsters, particularly young women.

Bizcommunity reports that the pilot project, an initiative of listed IT services company 4Sight, will initially accommodate 50 candidates, at least 60% of them female, and will cost an estimated ZAR10 million.

If successful, the programme will triple its intake in 2023, says 4Sight COO Tracy Short.

‘To realise the potential of the 4IR, we desperately need a deep pipeline of talent with the right skills. At present they are in short supply, which is the reason we are prepared to invest so heavily in this project,’ she says.

The programme will be based in KwaZulu-Natal to source talent outside of Gauteng, South Africa’s financial hub.

Candidates will have to pass a rigorous assessment and interview process. They will then undergo 12 weeks of technical training followed by six weeks of specialist training in 4IR skills. They are guaranteed a job once they are certified.
