Training in progress About 1 million people in Kenya are to receive training in AI and cybersecurity by 2030. In line with Kenya’s 2030 Vision and its Digital Masterplan, Microsoft’s training initiative aims to promote innovation and digital skills in a range of sectors, including education, government and NGOs as well as industries such as agriculture, telecoms and financial services. Africa Business Communities reports that the initiative will include a comprehensive AI programme for schools, from kindergarten to Grade 12. In addition, AI research catalyst programmes, innovation labs and faculty immersion programmes will also be set up with universities in an attempt to root digital skills throughout the education sector. ‘Kenya’s vibrant tech ecosystem and commitment to digital transformation make it the perfect location for our skilling initiative,’ says Winnie Karanu, Microsoft’s AI national skills initiative director for Kenya. ‘We are excited to empower individuals, SMEs and organisations with the skills needed to thrive in any sector including tech.’ 19 November 2024 Image: Freepik
